The Official Family Baker ?

How does that happen you ask? Well, when I was a little girl, about 4 or 5 years old, Santa brought me a Kenner Easy-Bake Oven™, for Christmas. It was turquoise just like the one in this picture.

Kenner Easy-Bake Oven

I mixed up my first package of cake mix, poured it into the tiny little round cake pan, opened the magic door and stared into the oven door's window and watched the magic happen. And happen it did! Somehow, that little light bulb created enough heat for that cake mix to bake up and magically turn into a chocolate cake. I was hooked then and there! The wonderment of measuring ingredients by exact amounts, stirring them all up, pouring them into a tin and putting them into the oven for ½ an hour, and then they became a cake, was to me, a 5 year old, purely magical. That was only the beginning. I started to bug my grand-mothers to teach me more things like; how does the mixer work, what is the difference between all-purpose flour and cake and pastry flour, salted and unsalted butter, on and on I went. I must have driven them quite mad. I took to making something for dessert every weekend. I became the "birthday cake" baker when my high-school friends were celebrating their birthdays. Anytime an opportunity to bake something came along, I jumped at it.

And now, after all these many years, I am the go-to person when the family wants their fix of peanut brittle, Snickerdoodles, Christmas Eve's dessert and our most treasured family favourite, “Aunt Vi's” (more on them later), in fact, just this past February 18th, I spent the week prior preparing 90 Aunt Vi's for my cousin's, daughter's wedding, as well as completing my first assignment for this semester, it was a hectic week. In time I will teach her how to make them, thus making it a 4th generation family favourite, passing it along as recipes are meant to be. So, I'm now finally getting around to posting about my baking journey, complete with some of the photos of my better (and not so better), efforts, so click around and take a look, but don't blame me if you find yourself getting the munchies as you do.
