Su's Home Baked Treats!
"the official family baker"
Student & Teacher
Back in 2011, I decided it was time to actually learn the correct way of decorating the things I had been baking my entire life, so I enrolled in the Wilton Cake Decorating courses offered at my local Michaels® store. The one course turned into 4 courses over the the length of the entire winter, but what else are you going to do in a Canadian winter? The people at worked loved it because it meant they got a new cake every Monday morning that winter. You can see some of our efforts here.
I've been practising those new skills ever since. Practise being the key here. Along with practising myself, I've also begun to teach what I know to my cousin's young grand-daughter, and I'll continue to do so as long as she remains interested. I have a recipe box full of my grandmother's recipes that I will pass on to her, which would make them her great-great-grandmother's recipes, many of them now over 100 years old. This is her most recent effort, a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting she decorated herself for Easter 2017.
